Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray will be shut down for the rest of the season because he reached his innings limit.
The rookie right-hander only made nine starts during his first MLB season for a last-place Rockies team. Gray had his ups and downs, but he was able to get the important MLB seasoning before likely being a full-time member of the Colorado starting rotation next season.
Jon Gray has been shut down for the season, Weiss said. Hit his innings limit for #Rockies.

Last season in the minor leagues, Gray pitched 124 innings. This season he increased to 155 between Triple-A and the Major Leagues, which was his limit. His season might be done on the field, but there's a few more things the Colorado staff will work on with the youngster.
"He'll still work on mechanics over the last couple weeks," Rockies manager Walt Weiss told The Denver Post. "And he'll have a typical offseason. He should be built up and ready to go for a full season next year."
In his final start of the season on Monday, Gray allowed five runs without getting out of the fifth inning. The 23-year-old will finish his rookie season with a 5.53 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 40/14 K/BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings.
