ANALYSIS: Milwaukee Brewers second baseman/outfielder Jonathan Villar appears to be back to being a solid fantasy performer, recording a hit in five of his last seven games. He has also stolen four bases in 23 games, potentially showing the speed upside that led to him stealing 62 bases in 2016.
While mentioning his 62 stolen bases is good, it is more important to look at his ability to get on base after posting a .293 OBP last season. While his .313 OBP this season is not great, he is hitting .286, which is in line with his .285 batting average from his breakout 2016 season. Villar also is in a strong Brewers' lineup, which has helped him knock in eight runs this season and, if he hits closer to the top of the lineup, would help with runs scored as well.
The Brewers will finish a series with the Cubs this weekend, but then will have favorable matchups against the Reds and Pirates to close the week. Villar will have an opportunity to chip in with batting average and stolen bases, making him a decent play this week.
