Jordan Reed Suffers Concussion, Week 5 Status Unclear

In the fourth quarter of the Redskins' game against the Eagles, tight end Jordan Reed was forced from the game after taking a knee to the helmet.  It was later determined that Reed sustained a concussion.  This news is significant considering Reed's long history of concussions, most of which have cost him multiple weeks.

So far this season Reed has been very involved in the passing game for Washington, amassing 278 yards (70 yards/game) on 24 catches.  Reed will now be on the clock to pass the concussion protocol before next Sunday's game versus Atlanta.  Since Reed has such an extensive history of concussions the Washington medical staff will play it extremely safe, and he may be held out even if he technically passes protocol.

If he were to miss time, Washington will turn to Derek Carrier or Anthony McCoy at tight end, who have 44 total career catches combined.  Neither of these players provide any upside worth targeting on waiver wires.  All Reed owners will need to begin looking for backup options--Richard Rodgers, Coby Fleener, Antonio Gates & Gary Barnidge may still be available and worth a look.
