BALLER MOVE: Add in Most Leagues, Keeper Leagues
ANALYSIS: Between the stack of other young Cubs to get the call lately and the wave of emerging Cuban-born stars in Major League Baseball, Jorge Soler has a lot to live up to. Perhaps we shouldn't make a big deal about yet another highly-touted young prospect to come up and play ball on the north side of Chicago, but where is the fun in that? The fact is that it is exciting to watch these kids all make their debuts as the Lovable Losers attempt to break back into the realm of relevance. Though not as highly ranked as some of the other Cubs' prospects (51st according to MLB.com), Soler's abilities should not be in question. He is a toolsy 22-year-old righty with real potential, raw power being his greatest weapon. He seems to finally be healthy, and we could see him tap into that potential sooner rather than later.
In 200 at-bats while playing at three different levels in 2014, Soler has knocked 15 balls out of the park while driving in 57 runs and maintaining a .340 batting average. He got the call on Wednesday and did not disappoint, crushing a 2-1 pitch over the wall in left-center field in his first career plate appearance. If Wednesday night is any indication, Soler could be yet another integral part of Chicago's future, and fantasy owners should take note. He is worthy of an add in all but the shallowest of mixed leagues, and is especially valuable in keeper and dynasty leagues.
