ANALYSIS: Soler slashed .265/.354/.466 over 61 games in 2018 before breaking his foot, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season. Combined with a BABIP of .340, a wOBA of .354, an ISO of .202, and a wRC+ of 123, Soler was an early-season spark plug for an awful Royals team that went 58-104. Naturally, his counting stats are impressive for the small sample size, generating nine homers, 18 doubles, 27 runs, and 28 runs batted in. He also has an interesting plate approach, striking out roughly 27% of the time but drawing a walk at a 10% rate; however, those numbers are in line with the rest of his career averages.
Soler is healthy and back in the heart of the Royals' order. Last season, he spent most of his time hitting out of the two or five spot. On Opening Day, he was in the cleanup spot and drove in two, so expect him to spend a lot of time there this season. Having Whit Merrifield and Adalberto Mondesi batting ahead of him in the lineup should present plenty on RBI opportunities for the 27-year-old. Despite a very high K%, he's shown he has no issues getting on base and driving in runs. Granted he can stay healthy, Soler should prove to be a valuable fantasy asset.
