ANALYSIS: Last season, Jose Altuve took both the real and fantasy baseball worlds by storm. He was the big story for the Houston Astros as he led the majors with a .341 batting average and paced the American League with 56 stolen bases With Altuve entering his age-25 season, many believe that the only direction for him to go is up and expect that he will be the top fantasy producer at second base once again.
He certainly has the speed required to steal 50 bases again, it's just a question of whether he will get on base frequently enough to reach that mark. He has the ability to hit for a decent average (I personally project him to hit about .298 this season), but his career walk rate is a mere 5.0% and his BABIP will likely fall from last year's .360 clip. Hitting leadoff in an improving Astros lineup, we can expect 90 runs or more. Altuve doesn't hit for power and likely won't drive in a lot of runs from atop the order.
Altuve will definitely hit for average, score runs, and steal bases, but he won’t be a better fantasy player than Robinson Cano again this year. He's a good player, he's just not a second-round pick.
