BALLER MOVE: Target as High-End 3B1
ANALYSIS: In 2014, Josh Donaldson finished in the top four in HR, RBI, R and OPS among third basemen. He posted 29 HR, 98 RBI and 93 R, but hit a lowly .255, down from .301 in 2013. His counting numbers increased from 2013 to 2014, but his rate numbers all dropped in 2014. Donaldson’s BABIP dropped 55 points to .278, and his line drive percentage dropped 7%. He had 19 fewer hits in 29 more at-bats in 2014, but still drew 76 walks, the 13th most in baseball. Donaldson’s 21.4% hard-hit rate is well above-average (16%), but the hits didn’t follow. With a little more luck in 2015, Donaldson should see his numbers increase. The Blue Jays' lineup will give Donaldson a ton of run-producing chances, especially with half the games coming in the power-friendly Rogers Centre. At just 29, Donaldson looks ready to produce even bigger numbers than he did in his first two full seasons. He is a surefire top three third basemen, and I would put him second behind Miguel Cabrera.
