Josh Hamilton will run the bases on Wednesday for the first time since he underwent surgery on his knee earlier in the month.
The surgery was done to clean up loose bodies in his ailing left knee. Since he was scheduled to go through running drills on Wednesday, it’s a sign that the former AL MVP could be able to contribute for the AL West-leading Texas Rangers through nine innings rather than as a pinch-hitter, which he’s been doing since the surgery.
Texas is closing in on a postseason berth, which begs the question if the 34-year-old Hamilton will make the roster.
"Every step that he does make in the positive direction benefits us and him," Rangers manager Jeff Banister told The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "The benchmark is how well he show up every day. A lot of this is to tolerance. He’s going to let us know what he can give us each day."
