BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 48% of leagues
ANALYSIS: On May 1, the Royals routed the Twins by a score of 11-3, giving them a division-leading 16-9 record. They didn't win again until May 14, losing 11 straight before taking the first game of a doubleheader against the White Sox. This run of futility is a big reason why Josh Staumont remains on the waiver wire in the majority of Yahoo leagues, but he's clearly emerged as the closer in Kansas City.
The Royals' last five save opportunities have gone to Staumont, and he has converted all of them. The 27-year-old owns a 2.18 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, and has struck out 23 batters in 20.2 innings. While it's true that his shoddy command makes it tough to bet on the ratios continuing to sparkle, his stuff is elite enough that he can succeed even if he can't always locate it. And with a third of the league using a committee approach to the ninth inning, any pitcher with a firm grip on the role merits being rostered at a higher rate than Staumont's current figure.
