BALLER MOVE: Worth a Look in Dynasty Leagues (Current ADP: Undrafted)
ANALYSIS: With the first string players taking a short shift in the first week of the preseason, a door was opened for second and third string players to show why they deserve a spot on the NFL roster. Juwan Thompson didn’t just walk through the door, he sprinted though. Thompson made his presence known after C.J. Anderson went out with a concussion. On six attempts, Thompson broke loose for 59 yards, averaging 9.8 YPC. He showed great vision on several of his attempts, making quick cuts and committing to his path. He also displayed an old fashioned running style, lowering his shoulder and covering the ball well upon impact. The undrafted rookie from Duke also was able to turn on the jets, showing impressive speed and power both up the middle and around the ends. Obviously, the sample size is not very high here, and this is the preseason, but this was not expected from the 5’11”, 225 lb running back who made the most of his opportunity. The running back battle in Denver may be more interesting than many anticipated, and without Anderson in the rotation for the next week or so, look for Thompson to attempt a second eye opening performance in two weeks.
