Korean Baseball Organization star Ah-seop Son will be available for major league bids this winter.
Any of the 30 MLB teams will be eligible to make a bid just to discuss working out a contract with the outfielder. The Lotte Giants officially posted Son, which was the missing ingredient for him to have a chance to leave his current contract and see what he can do in the U.S.
Lotte Giants third baseman Jae-gyun Hwang also asked to be posted but unfortunately for him, KBO teams are only allowed to accept a bid on one player per offseason. Hwang could be tried if Son doesn't draw a price to the Giants' liking.
Son, 27, batted .317/.406/.472 with 13 HR and 54 RBI in 116 games this year. This followed an 18 HR, 80 RBI season in 122 games last year. His teammate Jae-gyun Hwang asked to be posted, but will have to wait another year. Teams in KBO are only allowed to post one player per season.
The blind bidding process for Son will probably start in November.
