Keelan Cole (WR, JAX) - Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: If I know something, it is that the cream always rises to the top. That is why the Jaguars offense will most probably end the season with DJ Chark Jr. leading all of its receivers in PPR points. Although close to that position, Chark is still short of James Robinson in total PPR points in 2020 (although he's played one fewer game), and only three points over Keelan Cole. With more playing time Chark will solidify his position there, but through W4 it all points to Keelan Cole finishing as the team's WR2.

The competition isn't great for Cole in Jacksonville. The only threat to eat from his opportunities is rookie Laviska Shenault, but Cole has already featured on almost 30 more snaps than Shenault. Cole also leads the team in targets (22), receptions (19), and is second in yards (194) to Chark (204) through four games.

Cole has been fed steadily all year, logging 5-7-5-5 targets consecutively and catching 19-of-22 passes for a great 86.3% catch rate. He's virtually automatic at catching throws, has 43+ yards in all of his four games, and scored one TD in each of the first two matches of the season. Although his first two scores went for 15.7 and 17.8 PPR points, he's dropped to 8.3 and 8.6 in the last couple of weeks.

For someone rostered in less than a third of leagues, that floor/ceiling pairing is more than enough. Jacksonville is rushing the ball a lot (87:147 rush/pass ratio; 59%), and that lowers Cole's upside a bit and is the main reason while I'd still pass on him in a shallow league. For deeper-league GMs, though, Cole comes with WR3/FLEX weekly numbers and upside to finish as WR2 any given week. He is and should keep being the no. 2 target for QB Gardner Minshew ROS.
