Analysis: It isn't ideal that 22 year old Ketel Marte is walking less and striking out more, but at least he still has a .276 BA and has stolen five bases in 156 AB. His OBP of .307 has also been serviceable. What is essential for Marte is that he reaches base enough to steal a high volume of bases. Last year he stole eight bases in just 219 AB. Marte has some very unusual splits when it comes to his strengths at Home and Away. For instance, in 65 Home AB Marte has a .292/.338/.415 slash line, yet all of his five steals have come in 91 AB on the road despite an OBP of just .284. Marte is very young and his performance can be a little scattered, but he is still producing a quality BA and is stealing bases. Maybe the Mariners should bat him in the lead-off spot more, as he has a .368 BA, .409 OBP, and two steals in just 19 lead-off AB this year. He has landed on the 15-day DL, but he shouldn't miss more time than that. His value won't take a big hit.
