BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 15% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Perennially injured Kevin Kiermaier, has started off 2019 by successfully playing in 51 of Tampa's 57 games without any of his body parts falling off or imploding. But owners haven't yet bought into this healthy start, as Kiermaier's ownership still sits at a paltry 15%, after playing less than 100 games the previous two seasons - and only once playing more than 108 in his five-year career.
Regardless of what may happen in the future, for now, Kiermaier is healthy and contributing in multiple categories, quietly hitting six HR along with 10 SB. He's also hitting the ball with authority, with an average exit velocity of 88.6 mph - the highest level he's been at since Statcast data became available in 2015. Mostly hitting seventh in the order will limit his runs scored and RBI opportunities, but he's still chipped in 25 and 22, respectively.
Steady through April, Kiermaier really took off in May, hitting four of his six total HRs and stealing seven of his 10 bases in the month, While his injury history could rear its head at any time, for now Kiermaier is healthy. And if he's healthy, he should be owned until he's not. Kiermaier is on pace for 17 HR and 29 SB, as well as 71 R and 63 RBI with a .242 average. They aren't the flashiest numbers, but they are available for free in 85% of leagues and offer bargain shoppers the always tantalizing combination of power and speed.
Of the 284 hitters with at least 100 PA, only six besides Kiermaier have 6+ HRs and 10+ SBs:
Mondesi, Anderson, Yelich, Villar, Story, Andrus.
None of the above are available in 85% of leagues, and neither should Kiermaier be. Wring the stats out of him before the inevitable injury, and then back to wire he can safely be sent. But for now, it's time to roster Kiermaier.
