Kevin Pillar played in 159 games last season; his first full slate in the big leagues. Although known for his speed and glove in the outfield, Pillar’s production at the plate was relatively impressive as well, and should be given a look as a fantasy option in deeper leagues. Pillar posted a .278 batting average, while hitting 12 home runs, and accumulating 56 RBI’s. His appeal is attributed most to his ability on the base paths, stealing 25 bags in 29 attempts.
Pillar’s presence in Toronto’s formidable lineup only helps his case, batting behind guys that are consistently inclined to reach. The young outfielder is also very capable of getting hot, hitting .365 in June and .323 in September last year. If not for his dismal May where he batted .181 in 105 at-bats, his average would have been a lot closer to the magical .300. The 105 AB’s were his most of any month throughout the 2015 season, which leads to questioning his ability of remaining consistent in an every day role. Still unproven, only one year under his belt, there is some risk in drafting Pillar, but he’s certainly worth a late round consideration simply based off of last year’s numbers.
