ANALYSIS: Toronto’s offense was nothing short of terrible to start the year. However, they have picked it up as of late and are averaging 4.7 runs per game in their last seven. In a suddenly good offense, Pillar is a real asset. He is batting .303 with four homers and three steals to start the year. Pillar also is outstanding at home this season and has a 1.025 OPS at Rogers Centre this season in 49 at-bats.
In the prior two years, he hit .272 with 19 homers and 39 steals. Thus, he’s a good power/speed combo player in an offense that is regaining its form. Even though he only faces average pitching matchups this week, he is worth a look. Furthermore, the Blue Jays will face a left-handed starter on Saturday, Dillon Overton, and Pillar is 11-for-30 with a home run and four doubles off of left-handed pitchers this season.
Pillar's track record over the last few years shows that he can be decent part of a season long lineup, but the Blue Jays are just not the same team. It is wise to pick up Pillar while he is hot, but he no longer has the upside of a strong lineup to provide runs scored or RBI.
