ANALYSIS: Kevin Pillar has found a home as the Blue Jays leadoff hitter, which has helped him on his way to becoming a three-category standout. His 21 runs scored has him on pace for over 100 on the season, an impressive number in spite of Toronto being a bottom-third offense in baseball in terms of runs scored. He also has stolen six bases, and while he has been caught stealing four times, this puts him on pace for a strong season of 20+ steals. If he avoids getting a red light on the base paths, he could even be poised to set a new career best over his previous mark of 25 stolen bases.
On top of his counting stats, Pillar is currently batting .315 with a .368 on-base percentage. That may come in part due to a .336 BABIP, but it also comes from a lowered strikeout rate and increased hard contact rate. Pillar has a .925 OPS over the last seven days, including three of his six stolen bases, and scored eight runs this week. That makes Pillar an elite contributor in three categories and he also has enough power sprinkled in to be a viable contributor in the home run department.
