Kimbrel Becomes Fastest Player To 200 Saves

History in the Making

Craig Kimbrel joined the 200-save club Monday as he closed the door on his former team, the Atlanta Braves and gave the San Diego Padres the victory.

The former Braves closer mowed down his former team in 1-2-3 fashion as San Diego won 5-3 in 11 innings. Matt Kemp got the hit in the 11th that plated the go-ahead run. In came Kimbrel, who earned his 200th career save.

The 27-year-old joined this club in what is only his fifth season as a closer, which is the fastest in MLB history. In a lot of cases, closers are starters converted to the role or more of a veteran pitcher. In the case of Kimbrel, he joins a club that only 46 other closers are in.

This is his first season with the Padres after he was traded there from Atlanta during the offseason. In 2015, Kimbrel is 14-for-15 in save chances with a 4.09 ERA and a 32/9 K/BB ratio in 22 innings. Kimbrel has put together seven consecutive scoreless outings.
