The Chicago Cubs called up top MLB prospect Kris Bryant from the minors on Friday, according to an ESPN Chicago report.
In 14 spring training games over 40 at bats, the 23-year-old nailed nine homers, 15 RBI, 17 hits and four walks. Cubbie fans didn't like knowing that Bryant's amazing spring wasn't going to be good enough for him to join the main roster from the beginning, but business is business.
Even in his last game with Triple-A Iowa, Bryant hit a three-run homer. He'll likely never be there again unless it's to come back from an injury. Bryant started at third base and batted fourth immediately, with Mike Olt being placed on the 15-day DL thanks to a hairline fracture of his ulna.
