Juan Lagares is back in the New York Mets’ lineup Friday after missing the past three games, according to ESPN New York.
The golden-glove centerfielder hasn’t played in the last three games thanks to a slight muscle strain underneath his armpit. The Mets certainly miss his defense and could use his precense in the lineup as the team has lost all three games Lagares’ has missed.
The 26-year-old has a 276/.301/.339 batting line this season. Lagares was doing well at the plate until a recent 2-for-25 streak before sitting out with the injury.
Mets Manager Terry Collins stated on Wednesday that the Mets would not rush Lagares back.
“As I told Juan today, I know how he plays,” Collins told the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday. “He only knows one way. If this thing continues to get worse, it’s going to lead to a longer period of time, so I want to make sure that when he gets back in there that he’s ready to play like he can and not have any worries.”
Lagares must be healthy as he will bat in the two-hole behind Curtis Granderson and will be protected by Lucas Duda as the Mets welcome in the Milwaukee Brewers for a three-game series at home.
