Mike Leake threw a successful bullpen session on Wednesday, which means he could make his return to the San Francisco Giants rotation on Sunday, according to CSN Bay Area.
Leake, 27, has only had one start since he was traded to the Giants by the Cincinnati Reds. After a where he allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched, the right-hander was placed on the 15-day DL with a hamstring injury.
It’s been a solid season for the six-year veteran. Leake was 9-5 with a 3.56 ERA while pitching in 21 starts with the Reds. He was brought in to be one of the starters to help compliment the dominance of Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.
If he’s healthy, Leake will return for a tough matchup against Pittsburgh Pirates for what will be a big series in the standings for the Wild Card in the National League. The game would be the finale of a four-game series where the standings could take a major shift during his potential start.
