ANALYSIS: Detroit Lions running back LeGarrette Blount may be in a great position as a waiver wire pickup, as he has scored three touchdowns over the last three weeks. While Blount only had three carries for three yards this weekend, his lack of work could be attributed to the Lions trailing for a majority of the game. Still, he has received at least 10 carries in three of the last five games and did have two touchdowns against the Packers earlier this season.
While Blount is a good redzone option, fantasy owners need to realize that his 2.8 yards per carry represent the lowest of his career. This comes with Theo Riddick and Kerryon Johnson both carving out roles in the offense as well. Those looking at Johnson as a bell cow back, though, need to realize that he had eight carries for 22 yards against Seattle.
The Vikings rank 10th against fantasy RB and Blount does not have a plus matchup until the Lions face the Cardinals in Week 14. The Vikings are stout against the run, allowing more in the passing game to running backs, so this may not be the best matchup for Blount. Still, he is a good option at the goal line and should get carries if the Lions are close to the end zone.
