ANALYSIS: Detroit Tigers outfielder Leonys Martin is only hitting .254 this season, but that is not a true indicator of the contributions that he has given of late. Martin is hitless in each of his last three games, but has a triple, five doubles, and three home runs in June. He has also stolen five bases without being caught this month, stealing a base on Saturday as well.
The leadoff hitter for Detroit, Martin has driven in 10 runs and scored 13 in June, posting a .348 OBP and .461 slugging percentage. While Martin's .250 batting average is not that outstanding this month, he does have a 21.6% line drive rate and has a low soft hit ball rate of 13.5%.
While Martin may not have the name value, five of his seven stolen bases this season have come this month and he is now up to 26 extra-base hits and 42 runs scored. This appears to be a good time to buy low on a decent power/speed combo in all formats.
