BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 22% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Detroit Tigers outfielder Leonys Martin has fortified his spot atop a surprisingly strong Tigers offense, posting a hit in four of his last five games. Martin has five stolen bases without being caught stealing this month, adding 10 extra-base hits as well for Detroit. While Martin only has a .258 batting average this month, his combination of power and speed is enticing.
Martin only has a 14.3% soft contact rate this month, while his 45.7% hard hit rate and 19.1% line drive rates have stood out. He has hit 44.1% ground balls, which is not particularly good, but a .328 BABIP shows that he has not been particularly lucky this month. One area for Martin to improve upon is his 25.2% strikeout rate, but he also walks in a respectable 10.8% of plate appearances.
With the emergence of players like Niko Goodrum and Jeimer Candelario (and the continued assent of Nick Castellanos), Martin leads off in what is a stronger than expected Tigers lineup. His combination of power and speed, as well as his run scoring upside makes him a good fourth outfielder in deeper leagues.
