EXPERT ANALYSIS: Leonys Martin was on fire before his hamstring injury as he stormed out of the gates to the tune of a 22 runs scored, nine home runs, 20 RBI, and eight stolen bases in just 167 plate appearances across 44 games. Currently on the DL because of that injury, Martin has already resumed running and is on track to return this Friday when he is first eligible to do so.
Similar to Jake Lamb, Martin has an inflated HR/FB ratio of 21.4% that is fairly out of line from his career norms. That said he's also making less soft contact, much less medium contact, and much more hard contact this season than he had in past years. Despite the unsustainable luck he's had in the home run department, I am buying into Martin because he's either cheap or free, has a history of being an above average thief on the base paths and has at least taken a step forward in terms of power. If you can add Martin now while he's on the DL, I suggest that you do so. I personally chose to keep all of my shares of Leonys during the DL stint because I didn't want to lose him and I will hopefully be happy when he's back and contributing once again.
