Currently, the New York Giants have an interesting situation at the running back position. With no real outlying back through five games this season, the Giants have opted to rotate Andre Williams, Rashad Jennings and Shane Vereen.
Though both Williams and Jennings have little to no value for fantasy owners, with Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle potentially sidelined with hamstring injuries, Vereen’s level of responsibility with the offense is bound to increase.
Take for example Vereen’s numbers in Sunday night’s fourth-quarter win over the San Francisco 49ers: five rushes for 24 yards and eight catches for 86 yards. While nothing too impressive, during Eli Manning’s game-winning charge down the field, Vereen was a safety blanket of sorts for his quarterback.
Basically, if Beckham Jr. and Randle are to miss any time for hamstring-related issues, Vereen will definitely see more action. In fact, in their absence, he’d probably be Manning’s No. 2 pass-game target. For now, he’s a nice RB3/FLEX option for fantasy owners against the Eagles in Week 6.
