BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 57% of Fleaflicker leagues
ANALYSIS: The Nationals have called up their top prospect, Lucas Giolito, to start tonight against Matt Harvey and the New York Mets at home in Washington D.C. at Nationals Park. Not only is Giolito the best prospect in their system, but he's also the best pitching prospect in all of baseball -- and depending on whom you talk to, the best all around prospect in baseball as well.
Giolito has two plus plus pitches in his fastball that has reached 100 MPH and his curve-ball that happens to be the filthiest offering in all of the minor leagues. Also worth noting is that Lucas throws a two-seam and four-seam fastball along with that devastating curve and he also mixes in a change-up. While the change-up is likely to be a league average offering at the MLB level, it flashes as a plus pitch and the rest of his repertoire is top shelf.
Sliding into the rotation spot of the injured Stephen Strasburg it is unknown just how long Giolito will be up and pitching in the big leagues this season. It could be for a few starts, it could be for a dozen, or it could even be for a handful of starts and then involve a shift to the bullpen. Having already thrown 71 innings this season it is extremely likely that the Nationals will cap Lucas' innings in the 150-160 range.
Whatever the case is Giolito should be added in all formats regardless of scoring or size because of his abilities. He could be the next true ace as his ceiling is the Sistine Chapel. That's as pretty and monumentis as it gets folks. Go pick him up now if you can and enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.
