Luis Severino to Build Off of Impressive Rookie Season

In August of last year, Luis Severino stormed onto the scene, into a short-handed New York pitching rotation, and into the good graces of Yankees fans. Amidst a team of several aging stars nearing their expiration date, Severino spells future. And his 2015 performances proved so. Although pitching into the seventh inning only once in 11 starts, Severino allowed more than three runs in a start only once as well, resulting in a 5-3 record and a 2.89 ERA.

Severino could very well be the Yankees most reliable pitcher in 2016. He certainly has the goods. The main concern for his fantasy outlook is whether he’ll be on an innings limit. There’s talk of having him sit out all of April, but no one really knows yet what strategy Girardi will put out of his hat. Like with most young talent, there’s always a risk in drafting them, if they’ll regress instead of progress; the fear of a sophomore slump. But surrounded by uncertainty, Severino’s stability sticks out, despite a potential monitoring. There should be no hesitation in drafting the 21-year-old right-hander.
