ANALYSIS: There is something in Los Angeles' air. Both the Chargers and Rams have very confounding backfields, and although both squads seem to have a clear RB1 (Austin Ekeler and Darrell Henderson Jr. respectively) they are either injured or working under a rather high opportunity share. That latter statement is all thanks to Malcolm Brown, who is eating from Henderson's cake weekly.
Henderson is the clear go-to rusher of the Rams. He's outperforming Brown through seven games with 85.2 PPR points to Brown's 63.5, but he's still leaving a ton of opportunities on the table for the latter. Brown is rushing the ball fewer times than Henderson (65 to 87 carries) but he's featuring heavily on the passing game with 19 targets to Henderson's 13, and has played 233 snaps to Henderson's 191 in the same number of games.
It's been back-to-back weeks of Henderson not even reaching 10 PPR points, though, after scoring 20+ in three of his prior four games. Brown, on the other hand, posted his second-best game of the season this past Sunday with 11.7 PPR points and an RB22 finish on the week leaderboards. He rushed the ball 10 times and racked up 57 yards while also scoring a touchdown. That being said, he was targeted just once, and couldn't catch the rock.
It's hard to profile Brown as a weekly starter, even at the FLEX position. Brown showed his ceiling in Week 1 under heavy usage (26 PPR points with 18 carries and 4 targets), but from that point on his share of plays has dropped and Brown is pretty much an RB3 with RB2 upside at most.
Viable only in 14+ team or deeper formats, and perhaps only in spot matchups. Miami in Week 8 could be one of those, as the Dolphins are giving up the eight-most fantasy points to running backs this season.
