BALLER MOVE: Add in AL-only, Deep Mixed Leagues
OWNED IN: 12% Yahoo!
ANALYSIS: After spending the better part of the last two months in Triple-A Durham, Mallex Smith rejoined the Rays on Friday, going 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored, two runs batted in and three stolen bases against the Athletics. The 24-year-old Smith was acquired from the Braves in a two-part trade that granted Smith roughly a six-hour stint with the Mariners, and a recent injury to Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier has cleared the way for the young speedster to see regular playing time.
Smith slashed .238/.316/.365 with three long balls and 16 steals across 215 plate appearances with Atlanta in 2016, and collected six hits in 22 at-bats this April prior to a hamstring injury and subsequent demotion. The left-handed outfielder isn’t more than, at best, a three-category contributor — and owners certainly shouldn’t expect performances like that of Friday night on a consistent basis — but Smith’s speed makes him a potential asset to fantasy teams in AL-Only and deep mixed leagues.
