The Seattle Mariners placed James Paxton on the 15-day DL with a strained tendon in his finger after he was removed in the middle of his start on Thursday because of the issue, according to the Seattle Times.
The left-hander suffered the loss as he allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched. Paxton was starting to come around this season. In his five previous starts, he allowed six runs total in 34 innings pitched. The Mariners pitcher lowered his ERA to 3.70 and his WHIP to 1.30. He currently sports a 3-3 record.
According to the report, it is unclear right now on how long he'll be sidelined, but the Mariners should have an update on his status no later than Saturday morning.
The 26-year-old is in his third season in the MLB. This season was supposed to be his first full season. In four starts as a rookie in 2013, Paxton had a 1.50 ERA, which was followed by a 3.04 ERA the following season.
Domonic Leone has been recalled from Triple-A to take his place on the roster.
