Mariners Trade For Trumbo In Six-Player Deal

The Seattle Mariners boosted their struggling lineup, thanks to a trade Wednesday with the Arizona Diamondbacks for Mark Trumbo.

The outfielder/first baseman is the biggest name in a deal that involved six players. In the deal, the Mariners acquired OF Mark Trumbo and LHP Vidal Nuno from the Diamondbacks for C Welington Castillo, RHP Dominic Leone, INF Jack Reinheimer and OF Gabby Guerrero, according to MLB.com.

Trumbo has had his moments in the MLB, specifically in regards to his power. The 29-year-old has 118 homers in 594 games in the majors. This season has been a struggle, as Trumbo’s batting line is 259/.299/.506 in 2015, but he’s only in his sixth MLB season. Injuries have somewhat plagued him of late, but when healthy, he’s put together RBI seasons of 87, 95 and 100 with the Angels.

Trumbo’s first season with the D-backs last year saw him miss almost half of the season. Either way, the Mariners could use his help and a new scenery could do him good. The Mariners are 28th in runs (191) and RBI (177) as well as last in the AL in BA (.238). Seattle will have control of Trumbo through the 2016 season.
