Markieff Morris (PF/C, DET): Week 15 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Welcome to the ultimate what-if entry of this week's NBA waiver wire pickups! You might think we're a little bit crazy offering you advice on why you should pick Morris. It is not that Morris has been that bad, in fact, he's a valuable player considering his low ownership and his numbers, but it is actually what could be ahead for him that makes him quite an appealing addition this week--before it's too late.

As you know by now, Detroit is in completely disarray and about to start a complete rebuilding process. That might mean, first of all, getting rid of soon-to-be free agent Andre Drummond. With Blake Griffin already out for the year and Drummond possibly moving out of town, it could only get better for Morris, who will see his minutes bumped (from 22 per game now to potentially north of 30) and his stat line bolstered (currently at 11 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.5 apg, and 0.8 stocks).

Again, Morris' numbers are not horrific considering his current role in this team: while 102 players are putting up lines of at least 11-3.5-1.5 on the year, just six of them (including 'Kieff and Zion Williamson, although he's only played two games up to this writing) are doing so while playing under 25 minutes per game. If Morris sees even the slightest of upticks in usage and minutes he will become a much more productive player, given the efficiency is already there. If you have room to stash him for a couple of weeks until the deadline goes past us, then you should consider doing it just in case he finds himself in a much better role in less than 15 days.
