Marlon Byrd Activated From DL: Homers In Return

The Cincinnati Reds activated Marlon Byrd from the 15-day DL and he delivered a homerun in his first game back.

The Reds won Friday’s game against the Miami Marlins 5-0. Byrd did his part with a solo homerun in a 1-for-4 return. The 37-year-old had missed the last few weeks.

During his rehab assignment, Byrd went 2-for-7 with a homer in two games for Double-A Pensacola. It was apparently enough for the Reds to bring him back and place him back in the outfield.

"I'm extremely happy and surprised," Reds manager Bryan Price told Cincinnati.com. "It came along faster than we anticipated. He just felt good almost immediately."

Byrd has a meager .212 BA, but has 10 HR and 25 RBI. He still can hit for power at the Major League level.

The Reds are creeping back into the hunt for October with a 31-35 record. They have won their last three games and are playing much better overall.
