Marquez Callaway (WR, NO) - Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

ROSTERED: 1% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: Are you looking to add a super-flier to your roster? Look no further than Marquez Callaway! Callaway saw playing time this past Sunday only because of Michael Thomas' (ankle) and Emmanuel Sanders' (COVID-19) absences. That was already the case in Week 5, with the wideout now having played 51+ snaps in back to back games after topping at 15 prior to Week 5.

Callaway himself was forced out of Sunday's game due to injury into the fourth quarter. But we're not here to lament anything. We're here because Callaway could have played to a level that guarantees him a position (at least as a WR3) in the Saints offense. Callaway finished W5 with a 6-4-34 line, nothing to call home proud of. But in W7 with New Orleans' top-two WRs out, Callaway was targeted 10 times, caught 8 of those passes, and reached his season-high 75 yards against Carolina. All in all, he racked up 15.5 PPR points and finished as a borderline WR2 in the slate pending MNF.

Truth be told, Callaway's upside is tightly tied to the health of Sanders and Thomas. When those two come back, Callaway's usage will drop massively. But 1) they have yet to come back and 2) there are whispers out there talking about a potential Michael Thomas trade.

Take all of this stuff for what you want, but if you're part of a (super) deep league, you can do much worse than adding Callaway. Again, his 12-of-16 receptions and 109 combined yards in the past two games aren't bad at all, and it is not crazy to think he could lock into the Saints' WR3 role going forward, overtaking Tre'Quan Smith.
