ANALYSIS:
The Twins have become the fastest team in MLB history to 200 home runs. Gonzalez has contributed plenty of his own with 12, but his real value comes as a switch-hitter who consistently drives the ball. Even in an off year for Gonzalez, where more balls are finding gloves than usual, he’s been able to find success against both lefties and righties (.327 wOBA). The Twins put runners on base and Gonzalez will have every opportunity to drive them in. There’s also a pretty good shot of himself getting driven in with the type of hitters sitting behind him.
If you’re looking for a negative, it’s that Gonzalez sees a few days off. The Twins keep a healthy rotation going in the infield and you’ll see Gonzalez take a night off once every three or four starts. He’s still in one of the three best fantasy producing lineups in baseball and will continue coming to the plate with RBI’s up for grabs. He sees five at-bats in most games and has a ton of upside as noted with the 12 long balls. He’s multi-position eligible as well, so a great versatile piece for down the stretch.
