Matt Adams could return to the St. Louis Cardinals lineup as soon as Sept. 1, according to MLB.com.
The first baseman has been out of action since May with a torn quad. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny told MLB.com that he expects the slugger back “September 1st-ish.”
Matheny threw out a "September 1st-ish" estimated date of return for Matt Adams, who continues to progress through rehab in Fla. #stlcards

Adams has been working out at the team’s spring training facility. He could potentially begin a rehab assignment with High-A Palm Beach as soon as Tuesday. If so, he could only have a week of rehab games before retuning even though he’s missed three months of action.
The Grade 3 quad strain was expected to keep Adams out for the entire year. Having his bat back in the middle of the lineup, when healthy, only makes the NL-leading Cardinals even better. First base has been maybe the one hole in the St. Louis lineup this season. Matt Reynolds owns a .231 BA with 10 HR and 40 RBI while Brandon Moss hasn’t found his swing since being traded from Cleveland at the deadline. Moss owns a .170 BA in eight games with the Cards.
Adams had a .288 BA with 15 HR and 68 RBI last season but owned a .243 BA with 4 HR and 20 RBI in 43 games this season.
