Matt Adams took batting practice prior to the St. Louis Cardinals game on Wednesday, according to Cardinals.com.
The first baseman is making progress toward a possible return from a quad injury that sidelined him after 43 games this season. It’s been a long journey back for a season that was possibly done for but the 26-year-old might be back to help the Cardinals make a run at the World Series.
"He went through another series of tests today and [was at] almost 100 percent with the running," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny told Cardinals.com before Wednesday's series finale vs. the Giants. "He ran well and actually looked great. I think there might be just one more gear. But everything that we're watching, he just keeps responding very well. Getting back the swing, getting a good feel on the field again, those are things that he just needs some repetition with."
Before he was injured, Adams had a .243 BA with 4 HR and 20 RBI. In his two previous seasons, he was one of the better St. Louis hitters with 32 HR combined and near 120 RBI. He would provide a major force in the middle of the lineup for a team that already has the best record in MLB.
