Matt Carpenter will sit out this weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to “extreme fatigue.”
The St. Louis Cardinals third basemen stayed home as the team went off the Pittsburgh, according to MLB.com.
The All-Star left last Sunday’s game with lightheadedness and sat out Thursday’s game. There’s a chance there is something more than “extreme fatigue” here that is keeping the 29-year-old out for at least the weekend.
"He really epitomizes what we're all about," Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt told USA Today about Carpenter’s work ethic. "What a player, and what a great teammate."
Carpenter will be checked out by doctors over the weekend. He has a .333 BA, .620 SLG, five home runs, 20 RBI and MLB-leading 14 doubles.
Mark Reynolds could see most of the time at third base for St. Louis in Carpenter’s absence.
