Matt Holliday is scheduled to do some light running this week while the outfielder slowly recovers from a quad injury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The 35-year-old has been taking batting practice and will give his ailing quad a test with some jogging. Holliday suffered the quad injury in early June.
“See how it goes over the next week and gradually work in some running and build it up to full speed,” Holliday told the Post-Dispatch. “Everything else is going really well.”
The six-time all-star has played in 52 games this season. He has a .303 BA with 3 HR and 26 RBI. Despite a stellar batting average, Holliday’s power numbers are down this season. He’s had at least 20 HR in nine of his 12 MLB seasons.
St. Louis Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny told the Post-Dispatch that he unsure when Holliday would be cleared to rejoin the team, though they are hopeful it’s before the all-star break.
