BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 43% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Matt Kemp has been a bit of a fantasy afterthought in the past seasons with career low numbers, and often only appearing in the news due to his relationship with Rihanna. When he joined the Dodgers Spring Training roster the expectation was that he would be cut, but then he surprised most and ended up on the roster. While owners should not read too much into the “best shape of his life” mantra, in this case, there might be something there. Through 17 games, Kemp is hitting .340 with three home runs and 10 RBI. His 7.3 BB% is also the highest since 2014 when he was a legitimate star for the same Dodgers.
So then, what is the case for Kemp compared to other pickups? So far this season he has posted an ISO of .240, and at the same time has an OBP of .382. If the season ended today, both would be career highs. Even more, so far this season Kemp has grounded into zero double plays and has a 29.4 LD%. The ball is being put in the air more, and missing fielders on the infield. Owners do not get points for lack of force outs on the base, but if this continues, there is little reason for him to exit the line-up. Bet on the bounce back, and owners will reap the benefits.
