Steven Matz is expected to start either Saturday or Sunday against the Washington Nationals.
The New York Mets starting pitcher’s scheduled start has been moved twice because of stiffness in the right side of his back. Matz is feeling better, which is why the Mets will throw him out there over the final weekend of the regular season.
Terry Collins says Steven Matz feels much better today. He'll play catch today and is slated to pitch Saturday or Sunday.

The rookie could still be the potential fourth starter if the first round of the postseason with the Los Angeles Dodgers reaches a fourth game. In six starts in the majors this season, Matz owns a 4-0 record with a 2.27 ERA and 34/10 K/BB ratio through his first 35 2/3 major league innings. The Mets will take a look at the left-hander and how his body reacts after the start.
The first three starters for the postseason will likely consist of Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard before Matz potentially takes the ball in a potential Game 4.
