Steven Matz has been named the Game 4 starter of the World Series for the New York Mets against the Kansas City Royals.
The rookie left-hander has pitched once in each series. Matz allowed three runs in his first start and suffered the loss. He bounced back with only one run allowed in his second start yet he had a no-decision because Bartolo Colon came in to finish the fifth inning in what was the clinching victory of the NLCS.
"This kid, he dominated a darn good lineup, impressively," Mets manager Terry Collins said, referring to Matz's hitless first three innings against the Chicago Cubs. "That's why I say, we get this kid out there 28, 30 times next year, he can win a lot of games."
Game 4 will likely be the only start for the 24-year-old because Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard will pitch once before him and then again after his start. Depending on what happens throughout the series and what happens in his Game 4 start, Matz could be used out of the bullpen.
