Pittsburgh Pirates closer Mark Melancon was awarded the 2015 Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year during Wednesday’s Game 2 of the World Series.
The 30-year-old right-hander led all of MLB in saves, converting 51-of-53 chances during the 2015 season. Melancon supported his save total with a 2.23 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 62/14 K/BB ratio over 76 2/3 innings.

The 51 saves not only led the National League, they led the majors. Melancon pitched one inning in the Pirates' 4-0 loss to the Cubs in the NL Wild Card game. He did not allow a run in the appearance. It was a career-high in saves by nearly 20 conversions in his seven-year career.
“This award means more than just the on-field stuff,” Melancon said at the news conference. “These guys, their names are way bigger than baseball, anything they’ve done in baseball. Tremendous people. That goes so much further in my book to be with these guys up here.”
