ANALYSIS: Melky Cabrera has been a quietly strong fantasy player for so long. He isn’t the most exciting, but he always seems to be contributing. Over 17 games in July, he is batting .338/.375/.471 with nine runs and five RBI, reaching base safely in 15 of those games. He also currently owns a 10-game hitting streak.
Cabrera is slashing .303/.350/.464 on the year with nine homers, 44 R and 44 RBI. Even though his career average is .286, this would be the fourth time in the last six years that he has batted over .300. He is also on the verge of hitting double-digit homers for the fifth time in that span.
Cabrera has never been — and will never be — a 30/30-type star, but he has provided fantasy owners with solid production across the board for years. Just 31 years old, he should still be useful in deep mixed leagues.
