Analysis: In 2016, Melky Cabrera has been looking like a new man in Cellular Field with eight home runs and a great slash line of .294/.344/.462 in 279 AB with the White Sox. He currently has an isolated power figure of .168. That is his highest figure since 2012 with the Giants when it sat at .170 and Cabrera was named an All-Star with 11 HR and a .906 OPS. He is striking out in just 11% of his plate appearances and after walking at just 5.9% in 2015, he has improved to a walk rate of 7.5% this season which is his highest total since all the way back in 2010 with the Atlanta Braves.
Cabrera has also driven up his Hard Hit Ball rate from last season and improved from 27.1% in 2015 to 28.7% this season for the Sox. By playing in a hitter-friendly park on the south side, improving his Hard Hit Ball rate, and improving his eye for the strike zone, Melky Cabrera has recaptured the skill set that made him an All-Star once upon a time.
