Finally the New York Mets receive good news with regards to their bullpen as Bobby Parnell and Vic Black will start pitching in rehab assignments soon.
Parnell will begin hi rehab assignment with the hope of returning by May, according to what Mets manager, Terry Collins, told ESPNNewYork.com.
Black doesn’t have too much big league experience under his belt, but the right-hander is hopeful to find his role in the bullpen soon. The 26-year-old had been dealing with shoulder soreness during Spring Training. Black’s pitched in 77 games with a 2.96 ERA in the majors. According to the Star-Ledger, Black and Parnell flew to Port St. Lucie to begin rehab with the High Class-A team.
Thanks to a failed drug test, the Mets closer, Jennry Mejia, is serving an 80-game suspension. The lefty specialist Josh Edgin is out for the year recovering from Tommy John surgery. Jeurys Familia is filling the closer role right now as others are finding their roles in the bullpen. Familia has saved both games he’s attempted thus far.
If New York wants to compete with the Washington Nationals and the rest of the NL East, a deep bullpen will be vital to help secure wins for the starting rotation.
