The New York Mets are expected to call up Steven Matz and start him on the mound Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds, according to ESPN.com.
Sunday would mark the MLB debut for the highly touted prospect. The left-hander dazzled in the minors to earn the right to join the young, talented starting rotation for the Mets.

In 2015 with Triple-A Las Vegas, the 24-year-old had a 2.19 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 94/31 K/BB ratio over 90 1/3 innings. The numbers are dominant even in the Pacific Coast League, which features ballparks where the balls fly out of the park.
This will be the second time the Mets attempt a six-man rotation this season. If Matz pitches the way he has in the minors, he won’t be going anywhere. He’ll be joining a former All-Star starting pitcher in Matt Harvey as well as Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Jonathon Niese and Bartolo Colon.
The Mets, currently a .500 ball club, have relied on their starting pitching. Matz will only add to that strength.
