Michael Bourn has been suspended for one game after he bumped the home plate umpire during Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs.
The Cleveland Indians outfielder appealed the suspension and played in Thursday’s game with the Cubs. Bourn went 1-for-3. There’s a chance he could serve the suspension on Friday if he loses the appeal. Cleveland won the game.
The 32-year-old was ejected from Tuesday’s game after arguing balls and strikes with Phil Cuzzi. During the incident, Bourn allegedly made contact with the ump. He was immediately ejected and the MLB came down with the one-game suspension.
It’s been a down year for the speedster. He only has 5 SB this season to go along with 20 runs and a .242 BA.
Bourn has also been fined an undisclosed amount.
He bumped a first base umpire last season. For whatever reason, he wasn’t thrown out of that game.
