The Baltimore Orioles activated Miguel Gonzalez from the 15-day DL and will start him against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
Gonzalez, 31, has been sidelined since Aug. 30 due to right shoulder inflammation. The right-hander will have quite the return because he’ll pitch against the highest-scoring offense in MLB. The Blue Jays have scored more than 100 runs than the next team behind them. It makes for a shaky fantasy signing during the final week of the season.
In 25 starts this year, Gonzalez has a 9-11 record with a 4.85 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. His fourth big league season has been his worst. In the prior three seasons with the Orioles, his ERA was under four. Last season, he owned a career-best 3.23 ERA.
Gonzalez hasn’t been much of a power pitcher throughout his career, which lowers his fantasy value even more if he’s constantly letting runners cross the plate. Toronto is one win away from clinching the AL East, which might not be good news for Gonzalez’s potential final start of the season.
